Newbury Choral Society

Newbury Choral Society is a friendly, open choir with over 100 members of all ages from 14 to 70+. We have a large and varied repertoire; we do the sort of works you expect in a large choral society, such as The Sea Symphony and The Dream of Gerontius, as well works by Bach, Mozart, and recently the Rachmaninov Vespers. We also sing smaller works by Arvo Pärt, Gorecki, and Tavener. Something then for everyone.

We are an unauditioned, inclusive choir, but we aspire to high musical standards. You have to be able to read music (but you do not have to be able to sight read), and of course you have to be able to sing. Don't be put off if you have not sung for years. In a large choir you have to time to fit in and learn, as there are plenty of people around you singing the right notes!

We sing three concerts a year, with professional soloists and musicians. London Concertante often play for us, and they gave a stunning performance of Mozart's Symphony No 41 in our last season.

We also run an annual workshop. This is a chance for any singer to come along and work with a different conductor, often on a work that is rarely performed - so a chance to sing something different with new people.

Rehearsals during term time are every Monday evening, 7:30pm to 9:30pm at the Methodist Church Hall, Newbury .

Leo Hussain Our dynamic young Principal Conductor is Leo Hussain. Leo started with the choir in January 2004. His debut concert with the choir was Bach - St John Passion, performed in March 2004.

Come along and see what we are like. You will be made very welcome.
